Service Learning: 15 hours! Overall Diagnostic: 38 hours! Bastille Day: 3 hours Child's Book: 25 hours French Presentation: 10 hours (1 hour everyday in class for 2 weeks) As my time in the IBCP world comes to an end, I feel that I have grown in the fluidity of my target language (french). After four years of learning this beautiful language, and two years of dedicating a specific portion of my curriculum to it, I find myself much more comfortable and confident in my writing and speaking. With a wider vernacular, I feel that I am now able to speak with the confidence needed to truly master a language. Activities, such as going to the Bastille Day celebration with my partner allowed me to both observe and interact with the french culture naturally and experience different food, music, and taste that I would most likely would not have opted to take advantage of. Even creating my own book was something I did not think would be possible for me to do in a language that I had studied critically for only two years! It was a very long and difficult process because it requires much focus and attention to detail, but it was also quite enjoyable because I branched outside of just writing, but also discovering new music that many french children are familiar with, such Au Claire De La Lune, and reading books such as Le Petit Prince, which is a really interesting read. I discovered astrological and scientific terms that are useful to know, especially if I am reading literature and textbooks in my target language. I also got a better understanding of how to use the certain tense; past, present, passe compose, imparfait, passe simple, etc., and how they alternate and work together to essentially tell a story. This really enhanced my confidence and capability to be creative and really use my skills in writing in english, in french as well, and it has truly helped to improve my dedication and interest in continuing to further my experiences and skill even after I have graduated from the Career Related program. Focusing more on speaking, I feel that my speech is much more fluent and it comes out much more natural. This is because I have a better understanding of how to conjugate verbs and tenses a lot quicker, which comes with reading and writing because now I, in a sense, think the way I write. I feel much more comfortable and speaking in front of natives or those who speak the language quite well is much easier for me to do, especially because I've learned to accept the constructive criticism that is given to me when I make mistakes. As of today, I have found an interest in french, as I always have had one. I find myself really loving how sweet and crisp it comes out, how the hard rrr lunges from the throat so forcefully. I have enjoyed composing a book, and even doing presentations that link to my pathway, such as the power point I have linked below on Impressionism. I have thoroughly enjoyed and learned a lot over the two years that I have dedicated out of class time to the project. I am so thrilled to go out into the world and learn more and exercise the language and take it up as a second language that I thoroughly understand and speak!
